Today’s selection is the title track from the new James Bond flick, “Skyfall”. If you haven’t already seen this movie, I highly recommend it. “Skyfall” is very haunting and morally ambiguous. I saw it on DVD, re-watched it several times, and am still thinking about it. I like this Spanish-captioned version of the trailer better than the official one.

“I think I must have Icelandic ancestry – I haven’t researched it, this is completely unofficial, I just feel very at home there. Or, the further north I go the more at home I feel. I went to Hawaii in the spring and I thought “this is paradise, why don’t we all live here” but I confessed to myself that I don’t belong in a tropical environment. I belong where there are mountains and snow and clear, crisp blue skies.”–Tom Hiddleston talking about his affinity for northern climates, particularly Iceland, where he filmed Thor 2: The Dark World. As quoted by Oliver Franklin in the UK version of GQ Magazine (http://www.gq-magazine.co.uk/entertainment/articles/2012-11/14/tom-hiddleston-interview-style-thor-2)
I knew there was a reason I liked this guy 🙂
….it’s a bird! It’s a plane! No, it’s …..
….Thor and/or Loki being kicked out of Asgard again? Dang it, Odin, you really have to figure out a better way to discipline your offspring.
You tell ’em, Zooey!
Hobbiton, at this point in the winter, portrayed by the 22nd Fighter Wing of the South Korean Air Force. That opening scene where they’re all shoveling snow? Yeah, pretty much how my town looks right now. Can’t complain, of course, since it’s sled dog racing season, but I confess I’m dreaming of plants and gardens.
I dreamed a dream in days gone by
That spring would finally show up.
But now that winter keeps dragging on
It makes me want to throw my hands up.

Today’s offering on the old video jukebox is the sea shanty, “Santy Anno”, which is one of those inexplicable work songs that sailors used that doesn’t seem to reference the sea in any way. The music studio I take voice lessons at is having a Mariners and Pirates theme this year for the spring recital so I’ve been studying up. Unfortunately, most of the shanties, while catchy, are unsuitable for a family audience ……
And now for a library-related verse:
Why do the patrons love me so?
Away, Santy Anno!
‘Coz I tell them what I know.
Along the plains of Mexico!
