Pete Seeger, activist and folksinger, passed away this week at the age of 94. Pete popularized a lot of folk tunes and also wrote a number of original songs–“Where Have All the Flowers Gone?”, “If I Had a Hammer”, “Turn, Turn, Turn”, etc.–that have since become folk standards. Pete liked to say that he’d rather put music on people’s lips than in their ears. Here he is conducting the crowd in “Amazing Grace” on his 90th birthday in 2009. Rest in peace, Pete. You will be missed.
